Home Town of Santa Claus Gets Its Own Outdoor Digital Sign

Brief
We would probably not make a mistake if we were to label digital sign in Rovaniemi as the northernmost outdoor digital sign. Our recent study is about outdoor digital sign installed only few kilometers south of the Arctic Circle.

Situation analysis
Santa Claus Village wanted better exposure of local services. They wanted a shift from static to interactive, advanced technology. Their chosen method of portraying the innovative content was a modern outdoor digital sign. But this decision has led to a new problem.

Rovaniemi is the administrative capital and commercial center of Finland's northernmost province, Lapland. It’s situated about 6 kilometers (4 miles) south of the Arctic Circle. This climate is not really lenient for any outdoor installations. Especially not for complex outdoor LCD digital signs. There are so many factors that could go wrong: strong direct radiation can harm LCD, extreme temperatures (in winter -40, in summer +30) and humidity can damage fragile parts, corrosion can damage system enclosure, large amounts of snow can prevent ventilator-based systems to ventilate properly. Santa Claus Village needed outdoor digital sing that can be deployed in toughest of the environments and still reliably deliver best visual performance.

Solution
Answer for all problems is hermetically enclosed digital sign with thermal management based on air conditioning (advanced HVAC). This imotion G6 unique technology uses two separate heat exchange bodies. Internal and external compartment are hermetically divided into two separate environments. Such principle enables to close LCD and all other electronics into a completely protected environment. Because no air from outside enters inside compartment there is no need for any sort of air filtration. These systems are immune to almost all weather effects, even to one meter of snow, which could be in Rovaniemi a real problem.

Our partner Mediasolution installed imotion G6 65” Freestanding Portrait with 3000 nit ultra-high bright LCD with small wooden roof to blend into the environment.
