Outdoor Passenger Information System

Brief

We are proud to present a new modern “self-service” ticketing terminal. The outdoor terminal includes all the technology and knowledge gathered in our 15+ years of existence. Special attention was paid to creating the most reliable and functional ticketing solution out there.

Concept

Infinitus's task was to prepare a technically sound and modern passenger information system solution, that would replace the old existing terminals, which no longer serve the need of the new modern information society.

The main objectives were:

  • The future-proof solution - utilizing the newest, concept-proven ICT elements. (Contactless payment, interactivity, and remote diagnostic and control).

  • One size fits all solution (Standalone or integrated unit, with adjustable height, left-right/back-front position).

  • Outdoor proof solution (Vandal and weatherproof).

  • Modular solution (Easily replicable critical components).

  • Implementing Universal Design principles (Accessible to all.)

Solution

The new ticketing solution consists of two main elements: The core and add-ons. The core are elements that define every outdoor LCD system: protective housing, LCD, protective glass, thermal management, and remote intelligence. Add-ons are elements that enhance functionality beyond digital communication.

THE CORE

The main construction is built from marine-grade stainless steel. An additional layer of protection is provided by color coating. The housing is weather and vandal proof with IP56 protection against ingress of particles and liquids and IK10 protection against external mechanical impacts.

In the development phase, we paid special attention to following the so-called “one size fits all” concept. Ticketing solutions can be integrated into existing infrastructure or can be placed as a stand-alone option. This modularity is achieved with the possibility of adjustable height and left-right/back-front position.

The passenger information system is following the logic of universal design. It can be accessed, understood, and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability, or disability. The position of integrated modules (interactive screen, engraved buttons, payment module) is based on the European standards for digital accessibility.

FLOW thermal management technology is used to ensure long service life and maintenance-free operation (to the greatest extent possible). This complete thermal management is a combination of intelligent heating, speed-regulated ventilation, temperature sensing, air-filtering sensing, automatic self-regulation and self-protection. A proven thermal management solution is ensuring a stable, fully outdoor functional solution.

ADD-ONS

To fully capitalize on the benefits of modern digital asset management numerous new technologies were integrated into ticketing solutions.


Interactive screen

High on-surface temperature resistance LCD panel protected with 4+4 protective anti-reflective glass. The capacitive touch screen is laminated in between glass sheets.


Speakers

Loud directional speakers are providing non-visual access. For private listening stereo, the audio jack socket module is integrated into the accessible part of the totem.


Hearing Loop

For hearing impaired people invisible inductive loop is integrated in to the totem.


Payment Solution

For efficient and safe purchases on self-service kiosk card reader with pin pad (tactile/braille markings) and NFC module are integrated. NFC modules enable not only credit and debit card payment but also payment with mobile phones.


Uninterruptible power supply system

An uninterruptible power supply system (UPS) is integrated to protect against power interruptions. This is essential not only for uninterrupted payments but also to protect internal electronic components. UPS battery can be easily changed through a special hatch accessible from the bottom.


Liquid ingress detection system

An additional layer of protection liquid sensors is placed on critical parts of the totem. In case of any water detection, an automatic alert is sent to the system administrators.


Advanced locking mechanism

Special attention was paid to the development of a unique locking mechanism. Totems can be opened only with a custom key, through a custom procedure (two layers of protection). The additional layer of protection are doors sensors, which inform system administrators if the door is open.
