Digital Totem for Contactless Donations

Brief

Outdoor digital totems are not only great promotional tools, but they can also serve as autonomous contactless donation points. Read a short case study, how Sheffield Botanical Gardens simplified the donation process for their visitors.

Situation analysis

Sheffield Botanical Gardens were opened in 1836 and are listed by English Heritage as a Grade II site of special historic and architectural interest. The Gardens are a popular public park, with strong botanical and horticultural interest and are open to the public, with free entry, 364 days a year. The garden is run and maintained by donations and continuous fundraising activities.

The donation process for visitors was done through cheques. The process wasn’t the easiest, so gardens management decided to simplify this process.

Solution

Gardens management wanted a contactless payment system, which could take donations 24/7 and autonomously. A weatherproof digital totem was a perfect answer.

Because any system is autonomous only if it’s reliable, they wanted a solution from an experienced outdoor digital signage manufacturer, with many good references. They choose customized imotion FLOW outdoor digital totem.

The weatherproof totem comprises a proven imotion FLOW thermal management solution, ultra-high bright 46" commercial display, 10" touch screen, and NFC contactless payment system.

Totem now allows visitors to donate a predetermined amount or an amount of their choosing quickly and safely. After a successful donation dedicated “thank you” message is played on the 46” UHB display. The large display is also used to promote garden attractions and special events.

Public display

Custom made imotion FLOW 46 Portrait Freestanding with added payment module (10” touch screen and NFC moude) was placed at the garden’s entrance.

The project has been carried out in collaboration with our partner Digital Media Systems.
