NO MATTER IF TALKING ABOUT SHOPS OR RETAIL CHAINS, WORLD OF BRICK & MORTAR RETAIL IS GETTING MORE COMPETITIVE. YES, WEB GIANT SUCH AS AMAZON IS INFLUENCING OUR PURCHASING, BUT ITS STILL PRETTY OBVIOUS BRICK AND MORTAR STORES ARE HERE TO STAY.

As a matter of fact, Amazon is working on its own physical store concept Amazon Go (slowely but surely – link to issues when store is crowded), and even they use outdoor signage at the concept store front. Bottom line is that entrance displays are very good way of attracting attention and having powerful voice where it matters the most, at the point of purchase! 

Retail is doing well and presents lucrative sector for digital signage. Store vendors are trying now, more than ever, to get more people into their stores, retain their visitors and turn them into frequent clients. That’s why we have all sorts of loyalty programs where retailers getting access to data and at the same time build strong retention case with all the goodies. We have special exclusive toys campaigns intended to grab kids’ attention and generate returning visits. They offer deliveries, analyze store traffic data, and many more such activities. It’s a dog eat dog world out there, where by some research, customers use up to 7 different brands of stores each month, showing their purchase savvy. The point is, EVERYTHING IS IMPORTANT, and outdoor screens allow marketers to pinpoint marketing messages with real time promotion messages.

A lot of effort is given to attract single person to the location. It would be crazy not to try to utilize their visit as much as it is possible. That is where retail displays come into question as superior upgrade to common INFO PROMO billboards placed at entrances, which happen to be one of the most visible POS retail places, where visitors focus is at its highest. Info boards are used to promote products, new offers, publish any topic such as social responsibility issues (job inquiry, used item sales, etc.) and build brand. As static signage contents are usually identical as the ones in leaflets and relatively costly to replace on frequent basis, retail chains are increasingly searching for opportunities to modernize and obtain more than displays substitute.

It’s clear that external retail digital signs will be part of our daily life. They can be updated instantly, and allow strong POS campaigning and adaptation of messages, which was not possible ever before. Next development cycle will include displays with more functionalities with integrated loyalty program information, with help of technologies such as NFC or Wi-Fi.

As always, we advise retail rest to do their HW and SW research very well and prevent adoption of bad technology as in many cases (see recent fail retail outdoor LCD case of one of German retailers).
