1.) What is imotion^®?

imotion^® is a 100% outdoor standalone digital signage totem based on sun readable Full HD LCD display, that can operate at external air temperatures from -40°C to +55°C (the temperature of directly sunlit surfaces can reach up to 70°C - 80°C). Inside the housing there are some important devices like: Intelligent Closed Split HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning unit), industrial computer, ECU (Electronic Control Unit) that regulates internal temperature and measures power consumption, router, speakers and other Add-on Options: Touch Screen, UPS, IP camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

2.) What constitutes a sunlight readable outdoor LCD?

The LCD panel used in a sunlight readable LCD display should be bright enough to display content even in strong sunlight conditions. Furthermore the panel should be able to deliver high contrast ratio. Second, the display contrast vs. brightness ratio should be above 2 to 1.

Although a display with less than 500 nits screen brightness and a contrast ratio of 1:1.500 can be read in outdoor environments, the content visibility will be extremely poor. For an LCD to be considered a truly sunlight readable display, it has to provide at least 700 nits of luminance with a contrast ratio greater than 2.000:1. High luminance by itself is not enough; the colors on displays with high luminance and low contrast ratio look bland and washed out.

Contrast ratio is the ratio of luminance between the brightest "white" and the darkest "black" that can be produced on a display. Contrast ratio is another major determinant of perceived picture quality. If a picture has high Contrast ratio, the image looks sharper and crisper than a picture with lower Contrast ratio.

Luminance is the scientific term for Brightness which specifies the visual brightness of an object. In layman's terms, it is commonly referred to as brightness. Luminance is specified in candelas per square meter (cd/m2) or nits.

Luminance or Brightness is a major determinant of perceived picture quality in an LCD. The importance of luminance is enhanced by the fact that the human mind will react more positively to brightly illuminated scenes and objects. Users are typically more drawn to brighter displays that are more pleasing to the eye and easier to read.

Really important is also to provide LCD with best possible working environment ! In imotion^® housing we provide:

• Clean air (we use Intelligent Closed-Split HVAC system - no outside air or dust can enter the housing)
• Temperature inside are between +20°C to +25°C
• Constant electricity (using UPS)
• You can easily use Touch Screen on summer days (Glass is cold)

3.) Is the imotion^® protected from vandalism?

Yes. The imotion^® system is protected from vandalism attacks with tempered and laminated glass (6 mm + 6 mm). Our glass has been selected for superior performance against vandalism attacks, being immune to typical concussions such as those inflicted with a baseball bat. German military and Police forces buy this special glass from the same supplier as do we. The housing itself is modular and parts exposed to vandalism are designed to be easily replaced.

4.) What is the imotion's^® life-time expectancy?

imotion systems last up to 5 years (life-expectancy of the imotion system is most dependent on the life-time of the LCD display, which amounts up to 50.000 hours - 5,7 years) before needing a fast and simple back light replacement.

6.) How does the imotion^® work - does it have a computer inside? Can it be controlled remotely?

The imotion display contains an Industrial PC. Each imotion^® has a built in PC that controls the display and displays the content.

The imotion^® system can be managed and controlled remotely. The content and information for the imotion^® can easily be managed via wired (Ethernet, optical fibres) or wireless connection (WiFi, UMTS, GPRS, HSDPA.) network. Specially developed software ControlMotion^® allows you to have remote control of all components inside the imotion^®.

Electronic Control Unit regulates internal temperature and measures power consumption, enables remote control of all components inside the imotion^®.

11.) What type media content works best?

The animation effect can be created from any linear sequence of moving images with sound, such as a shot originally recorded in film or video. A shot can come from an existing TV commercial or from stock footage. Live footage, computer animation, sequential stills and VR panoramas and object movies all work equally well.

12.) How about sun readability?

The combination of a special Full HD professional LCD, with Intelligent Closed-Split HVAC system and antireflective glass makes it possible to see clear picture also in direct sun light. We have tested several LCD's and plasma screens on direct sunlight, before one of them finally satisfied our high set requirements (AUO / SAMSUNG professional LCD monitor for 24/7 usage). The glass used in imotion^® has a special anti-reflective coating, which minimizes the sunlight reflection rate below 1%. The imotion enclosure and the HVAC are able of withstanding the optimal environment in which a LCD panel operates in, enabling it to always deliver the highest possible performance (image).

13.) What about screen ratio?

The imotion^® system (landscape) works with 16:9 full HD TV ratio or 9:16 ratio for portrait version of the imotion^®.
